Valentino Vendetta Is the Sexiest Fragrance Launch of 2026, and Dakota Johnson Is the Reason Why

A perfume ad should be three things: sexy, beautiful, and intense. Valentino Vendetta checks all three boxes and then knocks the table over on the way out.

Vendetta is Valentino Beauty‘s new fragrance duo, Vendetta Donna and Vendetta Uomo, fronted by Dakota Johnson and Alexander Skarsgård. According to Valentino, it’s the brand’s first Prestige fragrance franchise launch in six years, and it lands in the U.S. in late August 2026.

That’s the headline. Now let’s talk about why this campaign actually works.

Dakota Johnson Was Born for This

I’ve met Dakota Johnson a few times over the years, and I can tell you she’s charming, funny, and has more personality than most actresses working today. Some people fill a room. Dakota rearranges it.

So when Valentino tapped her as the face of Vendetta, my first thought was: of course. This is perfect casting. She’s already a fashion ambassador for Maison Valentino, and per the brand, they wanted someone “instinctive and gracefully irreverent.” That’s just Dakota on a Tuesday.

Her co-star is Alexander Skarsgård, and the chemistry isn’t manufactured. The two have known each other for a decade.

“I’ve known Dakota for over 10 years,” Skarsgård told Vogue while filming Murderbot season two in Madrid. “I absolutely adore her.” He also noted this was the first time the two actually got to work together.

Johnson returned the energy, telling Vogue that Skarsgård is “very funny” and describing him as “calm and down for anything” on set, even with zero dialogue in the fragrance film.

No dialogue. All tension. That’s how you sell a perfume.

What Is Valentino Vendetta, Exactly?

Valentino Vendetta is a two-fragrance launch: Vendetta Donna for women and Vendetta Uomo for men. Per Valentino Beauty, the name is a nod to the original Vendetta scent that Valentino Garavani himself introduced back in 1991.

The brand’s whole pitch is that modern romance has gotten a little too safe. Too algorithmic. Too “wyd” at 11pm. Vendetta is their answer: passion as a conscious choice, not a swipe.

Is that marketing speak? Sure. But honestly, in an era where people are outsourcing their flirting to apps, “us against the world” is a refreshing angle.

Vendetta Donna: Tuberose With the Volume All the Way Up

Vendetta Donna comes from master perfumer Dominique Ropion, working with perfumer Andrew Everett. Valentino describes it as a floral gourmand woody built around Tuberose, a flower with a reputation for being straight-up narcotic.

The star ingredient is something the brand calls Tuberose Osmobloom, captured with an “Air-Capture” extraction tech. Ropion says the extract delivers “the exact scent of the flower when it blooms at dawn.”

Everett’s contribution is a red orange nectar accord inspired by the Tarocco Rosso, a prized Italian blood orange. Juicy, syrupy, with a salty edge. It settles into a creamy sandalwood base.

Translation for the non-perfume-nerds: it’s bold, warm, and it lingers. This is not a “clean girl” scent. This is a walk-in-and-they-notice scent.

The juice is deep Valentino red, because obviously.

Vendetta Uomo: Ginger, Cinnamon, and Confidence

The men’s side comes from master perfumer Marie Salamagne. Valentino calls it a woody spicy gourmand, and the build goes like this: Peruvian ginger up top, a Cinnamon Liquor Accord in the heart, and patchouli with carnal woods at the base.

Salamagne says she wanted a fragrance that’s “bold in character while deeply connected to the skin.”

Fellas, that’s the assignment. A great fragrance shouldn’t announce you from the parking lot. It should reward proximity. Uomo sounds like it understands that.

The Bottles Are a Couple, Too

The design leans on a bold graphic V and a pleated cap that references Valentino’s couture garments. Per the brand, the two bottles were conceived as a pair: distinct identities, unified energy.

It’s a smart detail. The whole campaign is about two people bound by instinct, and the packaging tells the same story on your dresser.

The Campaign: Inez & Vinoodh Did Their Thing

The visuals were shot by Inez & Vinoodh, and they capture exactly what a fragrance campaign should: two lovers who look like they’d skip your party to be alone together. Valentino says a full campaign film following Donna and Uomo drops in the coming weeks.

Valentino Beauty’s Global President Claudia Marcocci said the two stars “perfectly embody the emotional intensity at the heart of this new era.” Corporate quote, sure, but she’s not wrong.

When Can You Buy Valentino Vendetta?

Valentino Vendetta Donna and Vendetta Uomo arrive in the U.S. in late August 2026. No official pricing yet, but this is a Prestige launch, so plan accordingly.

Final Word

Valentino Vendetta gets it. Great fragrance campaigns aren’t about the bottle. They’re about the feeling you’re buying, and “two magnetic people choosing each other over everything else” is a feeling worth bottling.

Dakota Johnson selling intensity and irreverence? Skarsgård selling quiet magnetism? That’s not a campaign. That’s a cheat code.

August can’t come fast enough.
